The water pump circulates coolant through the system to help dissipate heat. The video below does a good job of illustrating how it works.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common form of water pump failure is an internal seal failure which would result in  leaking.  In fact, manufacturers have worked to make this easy to spot by introducing a ‘weep hole’ in the casing to make it more clear when internal leaks have formed.

A water pump is like the ‘heart’ of your cooling system.  The cooling system requires circulation of fluid to properly do it’s job; the water pump’s internal components help push that fluid along and circulate it throughout the system, including the engine block, the radiator, thermostat, etc.

It does; in fact, we strongly recommend against introducing water into your system unless it’s an emergency.  Water is corrosive and will eat away at the metal components of the system.  This results in rust contamination, which can cause expensive repairs.

Your vehicle’s manufacturer has designed the coolant system in your vehicle to work with one specific type of coolant.  Whether it’s Xerex Green, Dexcool Orange, or another color entirely, our professional technicians have the materials your vehicle needs.
