FAQs

Do I have to have my car serviced by the dealer to protect my warranty?

You do not have to have maintenance done at the dealership in order to keep your warranty intact. You have the legal right to have your vehicle serviced or repaired by any auto repair shop, since a dealer cannot deny warranty coverage if repairs or maintenance was performed by someone else. At BRAKEmax, our trained experts provide the highest level of service and quality that meets or exceeds the service of any dealership, and can provide all of your scheduled car maintenance.

What is preventive maintenance?

Regular preventive maintenance services are important for keeping your vehicle in good repair and helping you avoid potential problems. At BRAKEmax, you can get maintenance service at any of our locations. Our ASE-certified mechanics have the training and experience to perform all of your scheduled maintenance either at certain mileage milestones or whenever you feel you need to have your vehicle inspected.

Depending upon whether you choose our 15,000-, 30,000-, or 60,000-mile service package, our scheduled maintenance packages include services such as:

  • Lube, oil, and filter change
  • Check and fill fluid levels
  • Replace air filter
  • Check wiper blades
  • Brake inspection
  • Check battery and charging system
  • Replace fuel filter
  • Check differential
  • Check charging system
  • Inspect belts and hoses
  • Complete courtesy check

What should I do when my “check engine” light is on?

Check engine lights (CELs) may come on in response to a minor issue or something more urgent, so it shouldn’t be ignored. The light is triggered by the computer in your car when a sensor reports some type of value that is out of a preset range. At BRAKEmax, our mechanics can quickly identify the specific problem with a diagnostic computer or electronic scanning tool. Remember, even if someone can read the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for you, the code only indicates where a fault was measured but not exactly what has gone wrong. Schedule an appointment with us to have your vehicle inspected and the problem resolved.

How often should I get a tune-up?

Rather than use the tune-up schedules of the past—when cars’ systems weren’t computerized—today’s vehicles should be serviced according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. At BRAKEmax, we offer maintenance service packages at 15,000, 30,000, or 60,000 miles, or the mileage benchmark your car’s maker recommends. Of course, anytime you see signs of problems or your check engine light comes on, get in touch with us for an initial estimate or to book an appointment.

How often should I have my brakes serviced?

To keep your brakes in top condition and your vehicle operating safely, we recommend having your brakes checked every six months or 6,000 miles. In between those milestones, watch for these signs that it’s time for brake service:

  • Squealing, thumping or grinding sounds
  • Yellow puddles of brake fluid
  • Less resistance in the pedal when braking
  • More distance needed to come to a complete stop
  • Pulling to one side when braking
  • Vibration in the pedal when braking

Our ASE-certified mechanics provide premium brake service that includes:

  • Visual inspection of the brake friction and hydraulic system
  • Resurface rotors and/or drums where applicable
  • Replacement of premium-grade brake pads and/or shoes
  • Check and repack wheel bearings if applicable

BRAKEmax regularly offers great savings on brake repair services. Check our coupons page, then print your coupon or bring it in on your phone.

How often should I have my oil changed?

Having your oil and filter changed is one of the easiest but most important ways you can keep your car on the road. Since Arizona’s harsh temperatures can take a toll on your engine, we recommend replacing your oil and filter every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first. We offer fast oil change services at all BRAKEmax locations, and use high-quality Valvoline products, including:

  • Valvoline Premium Conventional synthetic blend for extra protection in severe driving conditions
  • Valvoline Synthetic Blend cleans and protects high-mileage engines
  • Valvoline Full Synthetic Oil is clean and clear, with fewer impurities than crude oil

Our complete conventional oil change service includes lubrication of your vehicle’s chassis and new oil filter installation, with free tire rotation available upon request. Be sure to check the money-saving specials on oil changes and fluids on our oil change coupons page.

Where is the best place to go for oil changes?

A quick Google search for an “oil change near me” doesn’t tell you which place is best for an oil change—it only tells you which one has done a good job of getting its website to show up first. Although an oil change is one of the simpler auto services, offered by repair shops, dealers, and others, the right place is one you can trust. Sometimes, a low price may come with hidden charges, so be sure to ask for an estimate when you make your appointment. Also be aware that you may be told you need additional products or services after the mechanic has gotten under your car. Again, choose someone you can trust to have your best interests in mind.

How can I tell if it’s time for new tires?

Inspect your tires regularly. Look for signs of damage and wear, including:

  • Cracks in the sidewalls
  • Embedded objects
  • Tread wear
  • Bulges, blisters and other weak spots

If you see any of these signs, or are feeling more vibration than usual when driving, it’s time for a tire shop appointment. BRAKEmax offers all of the tire services and repairs you need, from tire rotation to wheel balancing. We also have great deals on quality tires, plus financing options when you use your BRAKEmax VIP CFNA credit card or Goodyear credit card.

Does BRAKEmax offer any type of extended warranty program?

Yes! We have an affordable extended warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first, on repairs that we have performed. Our warranty also includes a 12-month roadside assistance benefit at no extra charge. If you currently have an extended warranty, we’re glad to work directly with your extended warranty company to get authorization to service your vehicle.

What benefits does BRAKEmax have for businesses?

We know how important it is to our commercial customers to keep their fleets on the road. Our commercial account representatives are available to work with or replace your existing program. These are just some of the benefits we offer our commercial customers:

  • A single point of contact to streamline service
  • Standardized process for work authorization and accountability
  • Preventive maintenance schedules/fleet service and repair
  • Citywide coverage for convenient service

BRAKEmax also has a standardized, nationwide warranty program available to our commercial account holders, as well as customized fleet cards available on request.
